How to Create a League in Fantasy Premier League

After submitting your team into the FPL, a lot of managers wonder how to create a league in Fantasy Premier League so they can team up and compete with friends and other people around the world. After registration, your fantasy team will be automatically included into several global leagues:

The world overall league involving all registered teams
League for the managers from your country
A League for supporters of your favourite Premier League team (if you specify that when registering)
League for managers starting playing the same game week as you
The Fantasy Cup (starts in Gameweek 17)

The country's league entry is in accordance with your profile settings at premierleague.com.

To update your country, go to the User profile page on the Premier League website. Take note that your country's league will not change until the first deadline has passed.

Private Leagues

Private leagues are the heart and soul of the game. It is the place where you can compete with your friends and rub salt into the wounds of your football buddies. Work league, your poker club league, church league, everything goes, really. FPL private league becomes a talking point every time you gather with friends or colleagues. Some people even set up leagues to compete against their girlfriends!

All you have to do is just create a League and send unique codes so your friends can join. In order to create a private league in Fantasy Premier League you have to click on Leagues >Create and Join New Leagues >Create a League.

You can compete in 20 private leagues. There are no restrictions on the number of teams in a single League. Some of them are comprised of only 2 members. A good way to challenge your buddy to an epic season-long fantasy football battle. The ones with thousands of participants are usually started by prominent websites or football stars themselves. But you can join those using the League code, which only the League administrator can provide you with it.

Public Leagues

Join another public League of randomly assigned teams if you want some extra competition. You can compete in up to 3 public leagues per season. You can join directly without any special code provided that there is an opening for your team in the leagues that have already been created. You can't create a public league yourself since they are created automatically.

Scoring Differences

There are two types of scoring available for selection when creating a League. You must choose between either classic or head-to-head scoring when creating a league.

Classic Scoring

In the League with a classic account, teams are ranked based on their total number of points in the game. You can join or leave the League with a classic score at any time during the season.

In the event of a tie between the teams, the team that made the fewest transfers will be positioned higher. Any transfers made using a wildcard or free hit will not be counted in the total amount of transfers made.

Classic scoring leagues go through several stages:

Fantasy Premier League Gameweeks

Any transfer point deductions during the game week prior to the start of the phase will not be deducted from the phase score. For example, any transfers made in Gameweek 4 (preparing for Gameweek 5) will not be deducted from your September score.

Head-to-head scoring

In a head-to-head League, each team plays a match against the other team in the League every game week. The result of the match is based on the score for each team, minus all transfer points spent preparing for that week.

3 points are awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw. Then teams are ranked by points earned in head-to-head matches.

At the beginning of the first game week of the League, the season-long schedule of head-to-head matches is generated. Once these matches are generated, the League is blocked and other teams will not be able to join or leave it.

If there is an odd number of teams in a Head-to-Head League, then an average team will join the League to ensure that each team has a h2h-game every game week. This added team will always get the average score of the Round.

In the event of a tie between the teams in overall standings, the team with the highest number of game points will be positioned higher.

Head-to-head knockout stage

If desired, a h2h-league can end with a knockout stage for up to 3 game weeks with the winner of the League determined by a match during the final game week of the season. The automatically generated average team will not enter the knockout stage, its place will be taken by the next best-placed team.

In the event of a tie between the teams in a head-to-head knockout match, the following tiebreakers are used:

1. most goals scored in the Round

2. the least number of goals conceded in the Round

3. a virtual coin toss

Your opponents' teams can only be viewed after the start of their first game week so that managers can keep their team tactics secret. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately, the 'Bielsa' strategy of spying on your opponent and changes he makes is not available to managers.

To view a team once you are allowed to do so, simply click on its name in the League table.

Renewing a FPL league

If you were a League administrator in the previous season of fantasy football and your League was a Classic one, you will have the option to "renew your leagues" when you click on the "leagues" tab.

If your League was a h2h-league, you need to create a new League every season, since you cannot update this type of private League.
